When I worked at The Desert Sun newspaper in Palm Springs, Calif., Tina called and asked my supervisor if David was available. My supervisor said there is nobody by that name on the news desk.
Tina again asked to speak to David and again was told that there was no David in the newsroom. That’s because everybody knew me as Zas. Tina told my supervisor that Zas had a first name – it’s David. My supervisor did not know that.
When Tina and I moved to the South – first Mississippi and then Alabama – everybody called me David. Zas was gone. One person in Mississippi did call me “Z Man” A good friend from California still calls me “Z.”
Now, Tina and I have completed the circle. She was known as Tina Mac in The Desert Sun days. We are back – Mac and Zas.
